Wakayama Farm is a farm where bamboo has been cultivated with the aim of pesticide-free and organic farming for approximately over 100 years. The 24-hectare bamboo forest on this farm has also been used as the location for various movies and commercials.

In addition to taking a stroll through the bamboo forest,you can pick bamboo shoots in spring,pick berries in the summer and search for chestnuts in the fall.

Visitors can also experience drinking matcha green tea in bamboo cups in the bamboo grove (Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only).

On weekends, the bamboo grove is illuminated. Visitors can enjoy beautiful illumination while strolling through the bamboo grove.

Kanaya Kashi Honpo is a gift shop and café operated by a long-established Japanese hotel. The product lineup includes cookies, based on an original recipe that combines Japanese and Western flavors, and baked confectionery such as pies. The signature Biscuit Series (Cookies) has three variations: Cheese Biscuits (Pastel), Sansho Pepper Biscuits (Loire), and Maple Caramel Biscuits. All of them are carefully made at a factory directly managed by the Kanaya Resorts group.
The shop has a modern Japanese style café with the interior design emphasizing wood grains. During the lunch hours, you can casually enjoy the taste of hotel restaurants. The Shrine where Ieyasu Tokugawa, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, is enshrined

The most renowned shrine of “the Shrines and Temples of Nikko”-a UNESCO world heritage site where Ieyasu Tokugawa, the great Shogun who started the Edo Period, is enshrined. Most of the shrine complex you see today was rebuilt in 17th century. The shrine contains 55 buildings including 8 national treasures and 34 listed buildings. The highlights are many colorful buildings which are richly decorated with gorgeous carvings. Do not miss the symbol of peace “Sleeping Cat”, and the “Three Monkeys” with the “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil” poses!

Experience the ritual in the closed-door temple hall to feel the essence of mountain worship in Nikko

Goma, or “homa” in Sanskrit, is a secret practice (secret teaching) in Esoteric Buddhism from India where monks start the fire of wisdom in the hearth-altar and throw various offerings into the fire to dispel calamity and misfortune, wishing for Buddha’s protection (fulfillment of wishes). It is said that Nikko developed through the connection between nature and worship. At Chuzenji Temple, which is a branch of the world heritage site Rinnoji Temple, you can experience shakyo (sutra copying) and shabutsu (Buddha image tracing) while making your wishes and attend the goma fire ceremony. Nikko Takaiya, the Japanese restaurant, opened in 1805. At the request of shrines and temples in Nikko (Nikko Toshogu, Nikko Futarasan-jinja, and Nikkozan Rinno-ji), we have been preparing dishes for their festivals for over 200 years. Today, the Nikko specialty ‘yuba’ dishes are quite popular among tourists. Our guests include the Imperial Family, cultural figures, and generations of local customers. Their spirit that “Junmai Jyozosyu” is an authentic sake”.

Of course, we use Nikko’s natural grand water to make nice sake in Nikko’s very cold winter. Why don’t you try it?

Enjoy walking through the beautiful nature and sacred atmosphere

The little gorge formed by an eruption of nearby Mt. Nantai is a uniquely scenic spot. A row of approximately 70 Jizos are lined up along the south bank of the river. The group of Jizos is called “Baké-Jizo” because it is said that they are uncountable; if you try to count them, each time you will end up with a different number. Legend has it that the Sanskrit character “Kanman” on an upstream cliff was inscribed by Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism, by throwing his brush. The Nikko Botanical Garden is on the opposite shore of the Jizos, and visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty in the seasons of spring verdant greens, autumn colours and snowy Jizos.

Opened in 1964, Kanuma Country Club (鹿沼カントリー俱楽部) is a golf club featuring a total of 45 holes, the highest number in Tochigi, on vast land surrounded by lush green trees. The highly strategic course layout features very thrilling and challenging greens. Kanuma Country Club (鹿沼カントリー倶楽部) is also recognized for its maintenance quality and is particularly proud of its greens maintenance.

 

Between rounds, enjoy exquisite yakiniku at the clubhouse yakiniku restaurant Kashoen (鹿翔苑). Or, at the main restaurant, you can try Kanuma Kalbi Ramen, which has been the restaurant’s best-selling dish for over 50 years.

 

During the summer, Rokumaru Terrace (ろくまるテラス) offers shaved ice made with Nikko natural spring water, which is popular in the local area.
